Gold Information
Gold is the most malleable of all metals. For this reason, it is commonly mixed with other metals to increase its hardness, particularly for use in jewellery. Metals used for this purpose are usually silver, copper and zinc. White Gold has a larger proportion of silver which influences the colouration of the metal. Gold purity is usually listed as Carat. A carat is 1:24 ratio of metal to Gold. Therefore, 24 Carat Gold is pure gold. 9 Carat Gold is 9/24 pure, or 37.5% gold, the remainder being other metals. Most jewellery sold is 9 or 14 carat.
