As could be expected from a culture rich in history and variety, the cuisine of India offers the same delights to those interested in the culinary arts. The use of spices and tropical herbs is nearly an art form – the blending of many spices provides a myriad of taste experiences. The cooking of the spices in oil is unique and releases flavours and aromas which are spectacular. The preparation of dishes and ingredients are imbedded in the historical influences of Indian culture. Therefore, different regions of India offer their own specialities with their own taste, subtlety and aroma. The British colonization also influenced the cuisine of India. The British adapted and created dishes to suit their particular tastes and carried these adaptations to the West. These adaptations are often considered to be "Indian food", while they may be drastically different from the original recipe. Before you start cooking, you might want to look at the terminology page!
